Oftentimes discerning who will be the best contractor for your commercial construction project is the most challenging aspect of the construction process. There is nothing worse than having thousands of dollars already invested in the construction of your commercial building and realizing you didn’t choose the best contractor for your project. In this post we will talk about six important ways to make sure you hire the right company for the job.

1. Interview and ask the right questions

You should ask them what types of projects they feel they specialize in. You should also find out how they handle uncertainties and challenges that arise. They should be more than happy to sit down with you and answer any questions you may have.

2. Check out references

If the contractor is unwilling to provide you with a list of references, that is a huge red flag. Some important questions to ask the references provided are… Were they consistently on time? Were they likable and friendly? Did they leave the jobsite well-organized at the end of the day? Did they keep open communication with you?

4. Make sure you’re presented with a detailed project plan

The contractor should be able to provide you with a timeline that shows each part of the project and how long it will take. They should be willing to meet with you every couple of weeks and verify that everything is going as planned.

6. Ask to see their past projects

Most reputable contractors will have a website or portfolio available that not only show completed projects, but progress photos, as well. You will be able to see that the area is kept clean during construction and other important details.
